Title: Fascia-Focused Movement Practices for Long Covid
The webinar will be uploaded to the Members’ Area within 72 hours of the event for free access by our members.
Webinar Summary:
Rejuvenating movement practices are necessary but not sufficient to improve quality of life disrupted by long COVID. Long Haul COVID Syndrome (LHCS), known as ‘long COVID’, is characterized by prolonged malaise, headache, generalized fatigue, sleep difficulties, hair loss, smell disorder, decreased appetite, painful joints, dyspnea, chest pain, neuropsychological symptoms and cognitive dysfunction. Up to 80% of individuals who contract COVID-19 experience prolonged illness after the virus. Long COVID may persist for months after the acute infection. Almost half of people diagnosed with long COVID report reduced quality of life. Long COVID is not only seen after COVID infection but is also observed in some people who have received injections. This may be due to monocyte/ microglia activation by the spike protein. Long-COVID is characterized by severe post-exertional fatigue. Exercise may result in worsening symptoms. Individuals should be advised to engage in moderate exertion, keeping their heart rate under 110 beats per minute, increasing slowly only as tolerated. Low resistance exercises are preferred over aerobic exercises.
Experience fascia- focused movement sequences that support efficient breathing, comfort, ease and confidence during activities of daily living. Gentle full-body oscillations integrate coherent nose breathing and humming to stimulate the release of nitric oxide. The sequences include orientations in prone, side lying, supine, bridging, quadruped and standing. Use a cushioned mat adjacent to a wall if you are comfortable on the floor. A firm bed with head board will also be suitable.
