Title: Pain on Purpose
With: Kevin Prunty
Note: The replay will be available in the Members' Area, Past Webinars section, normally two days after the live webinar.
SUMMARY
This webinar explores a different perspective on pain and discomfort within both manual therapy and martial arts practice. Rather than viewing pain purely as something negative to be avoided, the session examines how controlled, appropriate discomfort can sometimes act as valuable feedback; helping practitioners better understand tissue engagement, body mechanics, technical accuracy, and individual tolerance.
Drawing from experience in both therapeutic and martial disciplines, Kevin will discuss the important distinction between productive discomfort and harmful pain, and how sensitivity, communication, and context influence safe and effective practice. The webinar will also look at how pain responses can guide precision in treatment and technique application, while highlighting the ethical responsibility involved in working with another person’s body.
This is not about encouraging unnecessary pain, but about developing a more informed and nuanced understanding of how discomfort, pressure, and sensation can be interpreted within skilled practice.
Note: All monthly member webinars are made available in the membership section a couple of days after the event.
